Attitude, Investment and Turkish Goods Week

The Week of Attitude, Investment and Turkish Goods is an annual event celebrated in Turkey from December 12-18. It aims to raise awareness in our society about consumption habits, with a focus on protecting local producers and preventing waste. These initiatives are crucial for our economic growth. As Mustafa Kemal Atatürk emphasized at the Izmir Economic Congress in 1923, throughout the history of the Republic, importance has always been attached to the production and use of local goods in order to preserve the independence of the country and steps have been taken with this vision. Since 1946, the events that started to be celebrated under the name of Turkish Goods Week have been officially renamed as Attitude, Investment and Turkish Goods Week since 1983.

Supporting Local Producers

Supporting local producers is crucial for Turkey's economic development and sustainable growth. By choosing local producers, who have a better understanding of customer demands and develop products that are more suitable for the local market, consumers can enjoy a more reliable and high-quality shopping experience. The increased demand resulting from customer satisfaction fosters competition among local businesses, leading to improvements in production processes through innovation and research and development activities, ultimately raising the overall quality of products. This increased demand also creates employment opportunities, reducing unemployment rates and enhancing social welfare. Additionally, consumers benefit from more efficient and affordable products. Ultimately, the growth of local production and the confidence of local producers directly contribute to the economy.

Environmental Benefits of Local Production

Consuming local goods involves selecting products that are produced locally instead of imported goods that require long-distance transportation. This choice helps to decrease carbon emissions associated with logistics operations. Additionally, local production utilizing local resources helps to minimize environmental impacts and supports local suppliers. Moreover, the materials used in local production are often sourced from the local area, ensuring a more sustainable utilization of natural resources. Purchasing from local producers is an environmentally friendly option that promotes energy and resource efficiency. The growing demand for energy and the declining availability of fossil fuels are driving the global shift towards renewable energy systems. Rather than relying on finite natural resources, the utilization of alternative energy sources such as solar, wind, water, and biomass is a more environmentally sustainable approach.

In this particular context, Unigen fulfills the electricity requirements of its raised floor factory in Düzce by utilizing solar energy, a sustainable and renewable energy source. This approach demonstrates Unigen's commitment to environmental consciousness throughout all its operations. With the successful installation of an 800 kWp photovoltaic system in March 2023, the factory has generated a total of 400,000 kWh of electricity by the end of July 2023, effectively meeting its electricity demands. By transitioning to solar energy from renewable sources, Unigen has not only contributed to a cleaner energy supply but has also prevented the emission of approximately 264 tons of CO2 gas into the atmosphere. This emission reduction is equivalent to the environmental benefit of planting 4,982 trees.
