Attitude, Investment, and Turkish Goods Week

Attitude, Investment, and Turkish Goods Week is a special week celebrated in Turkey for many years between December 12-18, aimed at raising awareness in our society about consumption habits. Protecting local producers and preventing waste are among the key issues necessary for our economic growth.

As emphasized by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk at the İzmir Economic Congress in 1923, throughout the history of the Republic, the production and use of domestic goods to maintain the country’s independence have always been given importance, and steps have been taken with this vision. The events, which began to be celebrated under the name Domestic Goods Week from 1946, were officially renamed Attitude, Investment, and Turkish Goods Week in 1983.

Supporting Local Producers

Supporting local producers is of great importance for Turkey’s economic development and sustainable growth. Choosing local producers, who can better understand customer demands and develop products suited to local market conditions, also means achieving a more reliable and high-quality shopping experience. Increased customer satisfaction leads to rising demand, which in turn boosts competition in the local market; competing firms improve their production processes through innovation and R&D efforts, resulting in higher production quality. To meet the increased demand, employment opportunities arise, which reduces unemployment and increases societal welfare. At the same time, consumers benefit from more efficient products at better prices. Local production and confident domestic producers directly contribute to the economy.

Environmental Benefits of Choosing Local Production

Consuming domestic goods means preferring local production over imported products that must be transported over long distances. This reduces carbon emissions from logistics processes. Producing locally using local resources minimizes environmental impact and supports local suppliers. Additionally, the materials used in local production are generally sourced locally, allowing for more sustainable use of natural resources. Shopping from local producers is therefore an environmentally friendly choice in terms of energy and resource efficiency.

The increasing energy demand and the depletion of fossil fuel reserves are encouraging the world to shift toward renewable energy systems. Using alternative energy sources such as solar, wind, water, and biomass, instead of consuming limited natural resources, establishes a much more sustainable environmental approach. In this context, Unigen meets the electricity needs of its raised flooring factory in Düzce using solar energy, reflecting environmental awareness throughout its processes. The 800 kWp photovoltaic system, completed in March 2023, reached 400,000 kWh of electricity production by the end of July 2023, meeting the factory’s electricity requirements. By switching to solar energy, Unigen not only provides clean energy but also prevents approximately 264 tons of CO2 emissions, equivalent to planting 4,982 trees.
